GPS for car: Garmin or TomTom?

Garmin and TomTom are the two leaders in autonomous car navigation systems. Two manufacturers who have been offering for many years GPS more and more complete, become indispensable for moving with confidence on the roads.

CARTOGRAPHY AND UPDATES
Today the TomTom and Garmin first prize browsers have a Europe map, which allows you to travel from one country to another using your GPS. The time of the only mapping of France in a GPS is well and truly over! Another progress is planned mapping updates from the moment of purchase.

Garmin being American and TomTom European, one would tend to say that the first one is more pointed on the maps of the United States when TomTom will be more precise concerning the European roads. Nevertheless, Garmin provides mapping with Navteq (owned by Nokia), known as more accurate.

TRAFFIC INFO
TomTom offers the “TomTom Traffic for Life” service via its smartphone, or thanks to the integrated SIM card on the Go 5100/6100 GPS. At Garmin, the traffic bypass service is free for life only on some models, like the nüvi 55 LMT.

SIZE OF SCREENS
At TomTom, GPS is available with screens ranging from 4.3 inches for a TomTom Start to 6 inches for the TomTom Go 600, with interactive touch functions for the most upscale versions. Ditto at Garmin, where the nüvi 42 LM displays a diagonal of 4.3 inches, and the nüvi 2689 LMT 6 inches, but a majority of models have adopted the 5-inch format, like the nüvi 55 LMT.

GARMIN NEW: AN INTEGRATED CAMERA WITH SAFETY SYSTEMS
The Garmin nüviCam GPS is equipped with a camera to film the road permanently, which allows capturing images during a collision. An impending collision warning system is built in to warn you in case of danger. And that’s not all: this GPS also incorporates a lane departure warning system.
